This year, PIA marks its 30th anniversary and we have much to celebrate. Over 300 attended our Anniversary Benefit luncheon featuring guest speaker, Anna Quindlen, who shared her “Insights on Parenting”; at our opening School Rep luncheon, we hosted experts on the emotional health of teens and teen drug and alcohol use; at our first seminar, four experts discussed the risks and rewards of social networking sites; and in January, Drs. Ralph Lopez and George Lazarus presented a parenting forum for fathers only. Most recently, we launched the NYC-PIA Community Blog, an online venue where parents can comment on issues they face raising their children and presented our annual Teen Scene forum to a packed auditorium.
Our Winter newsletter is now available for download. In it we explore further our overall theme for 2009-10 “Parenting in a Changing World” and tackle some serious issues such street safety and suicide.
Upcoming events include our Spring Benefit Breakfast with noted speaker, Barrett Seaman, author of “Binge: Campus Life in An Age of Disconnection and Excess” and a School Rep luncheon featuring Jeanette Friedman, Substance Abuse Educator/Consultant who will present on communication and family dynamics. In addition, to our seminars and luncheons, we also continue to provide ParentTalk™, our signature facilitated discussion groups.
Now fully “green”, NYC Parents in Action relies on word of mouth and our website to spread our news. Please join our mailing list and send our information to your friends. We invite you to “Be Involved, Be Informed, Be Connected”.
